Reflections of a Muslim Woman in Québec

Shaheen is an active and engaged member of the Muslim community and the wider Montreal community. She is a member of the Montreal Raging Grannies, and can often be seen on Brunswick Avenue in Pointe-Claire with others demonstrating to Save Fairview Forest. Influential Recordings

Matthew Hunt-Russell will discuss and show examples of music that have shaped the way he plays and listens to music. As a musician, listening to music is as important as instrumental practice, and certain artists have played vital roles in his cultivation of a personal sound and style.

Christmas – Past and Present

At this service, we hope to have many attend in person as we plan to fill the sanctuary with the joyous carols and songs of the season. Some of our members have agreed to share their memories, and reflections of Christmas – past and present. Please join us.

Celebrations

The children and youth are working hard to put together this December holiday themed service. They will share what they have learned about Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, and Christmas and there will be poetry reading and singing!

This service is for ALL ages. We hope everyone will come out to support our children and youth, in person or virtually. We are looking forward to a great end to the 2021 year!

Honouring Women

Jeannie Jane of Saturviit, a non-profit organization created 15 years ago to represent the voice of Inuit women from Nunavik at all levels of government. Jeannie will speak on the successes and concerns of Inuit women.
We will also recognize the 31st anniversary of the Polytechnique massacre and light candles in memory of those who lost their lives as well as for missing and murdered women across Canada.

The Mystical Way

Calogero Cumbo returns and he sets out his theme: I believe that the exclusivity of action and contemplation is a false dichotomy: action and contemplation can work together, each leading to the other.  In my talk I outline the four stages of what I call The Mystical Way, a way which undulates between action and contemplation.

Celebrating Indigenous Voices

JoAnne Fishburn, producer, and Julianna Peter-Paul, Mi’kmaq podcaster, present INDIGENOUS 150+, a film and conversation series dedicated to putting Indigenous voices centre stage, which led to a podcast and leadership training initiative for Indigenous and non-Indigenous youth.

Houses of Hope

Unitarian Universalist congregations are rightly held up as havens of hope – houses of hope – in difficult times.  In this emerging new world we now face, is this still true?  We will gently consider this question with music, readings, and reflection.

Remembrance Day

As Thursday November 11th is Remembrance Day, our Sunday service will be centred around the remembrance of all those who fought and died in the service of their country and to the world, to keep us free.

It will also be an opportunity to meet our new neighbours in this building represented by Major K. A. Mansour who is the commanding officer of squadron 686 of the cadets. He will speak of the goals of young cadets: leadership, active citizenship & fitness.

All Souls’ Sunday

In many cultures, November 1st is a day to honour those who have died before us. Susan Czarnocki and several other members of Lakeshore will reflect on our treasured memories and on the ongoing influence of some of the members of Lakeshore Unitarian Universalist Congregation who have gone before us, but will never be forgotten.
