Hidden Hunger in the West Island

Not everyone in the West Island has access to fresh and healthy food for a variety of reasons including reduced mobility and social isolation, which results in food insecurity. And 83.5% of residents of the territory have zero or negligible access to fresh fruits and vegetables within walking distance.

In 2018, the West Island Community Resource Centre and the Table de Quartier Sud de l’Ouest-de-l’Île supported university students to produce a short film called “Hidden Hunger / Faim cachée” about the West Island. We will watch the film and discuss how we as individuals, and as a Unitarian Universalist congregation can reduce food insecurity in our community.
