Carol will mark International Women’s Day by speaking about the concept of rights, and consider rights-based conventions, especially for Indigenous people.

Rights is a complicated topic as is made clear by Mi’kmaq scholar Pam Palmater, who writes about “the right to vote,” and Gitxsan children’s rights activist Cindy Blackstock. 

Cindy’s children’s book titled Spirit Bear and Children Make History tells the story about the First Nations Child and Family Caring Society of Canada‘s rights-based fight with the Canadian Government. 

Inuk environmental activist and former International Chair of the Inuit Circumpolar Conference Sheila Watt-Cloutier has written about the “Right to be Cold.”
