The Québec Association of Geography Teachers presents a video on the Shield of Athena, in the Lakeshore UU Congregation Hall, Saturday 23 February at 7:30 pm.
The Shield of Athena bridges the cultural and language gap for victims of violence.
Established in 1991, the Shield of Athena is a community organization whose network includes two day centres, an emergency shelter, and a community outreach department.
Extensive support, intervention, and preventative services are given in up to 17 languages and take into account the specific needs of cultural communities.
Different types of abuse, emergency and second step shelters, and police procedures in cases of family violence will be discussed.
There will also be time for a question and answer period.
